BABY STEPS® - Early Childhood Music Instruction

Baby STEPS®, our innovative early childhood program, facilitates
social interaction and fosters a sense of community. |

We create a relaxed, joyful atmosphere in which parents and children participate
in music and movement. At each level of Baby STEPS®, children and parents build a repertoire
of songs and rhymes and use rhythm instruments and xylophones.

TWINKLE TOTS
Age: 6 - 18 months
Duration: 45 minutes

This class introduces children and parents to simple rhythm instruments and sets in motion the process of awakening the love of music within the context of joyful learning. |
LEARNING EXPLORERS I
Age: 1 1/2 -
2 1/2 yrs
Duration: 60 minutes |
This class helps children
discover the joy of music while developing sensory awareness
and gross motor skills, and includes singing, playing rhythm
instruments, and the dramatization of songs through whole body
movements. Baby STEPS® faculty perform and record the songs
each term, and cassette copies are sold at the School. Parents
and children are thus able to familiarize themselves with each
term's songs through daily listening at home. Home listening
at this stage feeds directly into the daily listening that
each student will do as part of their instrument-specific Suzuki
learning process. |
LEARNING EXPLORERS II
Age: 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 yrs
Duration: 60 minutes |
Building on skills
developed in Learning Explorers I, this class affords parents
and children the opportunity to explore a wide variety of learning
experiences in music and movement. The structure of this class
is similar to that of Learning Explorers I, with added emphasis
on deepening and strengthening previously learned skills while
also introducing new musical skills and increasing the use
of the Orff xylophones. |
STEPPIN' INTO ORFF
Age: 3 1/2 -
4 1/2 yrs
Duration: 60 minutes |
Created
to bridge the Baby STEPS® and Orff curricula, Steppin' Into
Orff encourages students to perform activities more independently
as their parents transition to the mentoring role adopted in
our Orff and Suzuki programs. The one-hour class includes time
for improvising on instruments, more structured music activities,
and exploration of Orff instruments such as the xylophone and
glockenspiel. |
