GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer, reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission, artistic excellence, and financial objectives. The Executive Director establishes a visible role with the arts and educational community, creates operational policies, oversees the business and fundraising operation, provides administrative and professional leadership for faculty and staff, and has responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the school.

DUTIES:
• Define strategic goals, set standards for excellence in music education, and effectively inspire faculty and staff to meet those expectations.
• Create a strong management team.
• Communicate with and establish strong relationships with school families, donors, the Board of Directors, program partners, volunteers, outreach partners (including the Chicago Public Schools administration), and leaders in the music community.
• Evaluate and improve programs.
• Hire, evaluate, and provide training and development for faculty& staff.
• Maintain a welcoming atmosphere that builds community for all families, faculty and staff; provide guidance and support when needed; and encourage participation and volunteering.
• Work with the Board of Directors to prepare a budget, and ensure that the School operates within that budget using sound financial practices and controls.
• Keep the Board of Directors fully informed on the condition of the School and all important factors influencing it.
• Oversee marketing and publicity efforts, establish enrollment objectives, and administer tuition assistance to maintain the Schools cultural diversity and goals.
• Propose fundraising goals to support the School’s needs and plans; actively supervise and participate in fundraising efforts; and cultivate new funding opportunities for the School.
• Ensure that the school maintains official records and complies with federal, state and local regulations.
• Recommend changes necessary to maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and appearance of the School.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a Music Education Related field (advanced certification in Suzuki Pedagogy is preferred). Additional training in non-profit or general business management is recommended.
• 3+ years experience managing a non-profit organization (especially a music school).
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Vision, passion, tenacity, attention to detail and a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get the job done.
• Technological competency, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and an understanding of social networks, Constant Contact and online advertising.
• Understanding of general accounting and budgetary principles for non-profit organizations, and ability to review balance sheets and income statements.
• Solid background in personnel management, marketing, fundraising, leadership of volunteer organizations.
