OUR
OUTREACH PROGRAMS
Suzuki-Orff’s outreach activities help lift barriers of race,
economics, and literacy as families share in the universal language
of music. These programs reach nearly 2,000 young people each week
in a number of public & private schools, schools
for children with special needs, and community outreach programs.
Please call us or contact our

Coordinator if
you would like to set up a program at your school. |

MUSIC
LEAPS (a pre-school program)
Music LEAPS (Learning Explorers At the Public Schools) builds
a foundation of experiences that facilitates self-expression and creativity
for preschool children through rhythms, songs, and movement. It also draws
on creative repetition and progressive, skill-developing activities to facilitate
cognitive learning and children’s ability to anticipate and master classroom
activities. |
CLAP,
SING AND READ® (for K-2 students)
Clap, Sing and READ!® (CSR) harnesses the power of music to advance
literacy for students in kindergarten through second grade. Parents
are encouraged to attend weekly classroom lessons throughout the school
year with their children. Together they learn the rhythm of words through
music and build vocabulary through creative repetition. CSR employs
multiple senses in reading activities, making the curriculum effective
for all children regardless of their learning style -- visual, auditory,
or kinesthetic. The majority of children who have participated in CSR
for three years are now reading at or above grade level.
At the conclusion of each six-week CSR unit (six units total), every child receives
a copy of that unit's featured story for his/her home book collection. |
PROJECT
IMAGE (sequential music instruction for grades 1-8)
Project IMAGE (Integrating Music/Movement Arts with General Education)
is a sequential Orff-based music and movement program that serves grades
1-7. It surpasses traditional performances and short-term residencies
by providing ongoing arts education and skill acquisition, rather than
simply a fleeting taste for the arts. We also offer expansion classes
in choir and recorder instruction for schools seeking more advanced
musicianship opportunities.
Further, Suzuki-Orff's Project IMAGE music specialists collaborate with partner
schools 15 - 20 hours during the year to integrate our program with the academic
curricula. Our support empowers classroom teachers to create music activities
themselves and to use music as a tool to more actively and consistently engage
students, particularly those who are more responsive to the arts |
PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT FOR CLASSROOM TEACHERS
We include classroom teachers
as an integral part of our outreach program delivery.
Each classroom teacher is actively engaged by our music specialist
in lesson participation and collaboration every week -- helping them
acquire new methods and tools to use music learning to meet local/state
teaching mandates and to enhance their curricula. |
